ABOUT US

What Have We Done So Far?

Although we are a relatively new chapter, JMU's MTNA has already accomplished so much. A number of our members presented at the 2017 MTNA Piano Pedagogy Symposium in Jacksonville, Florida. We also hosted a Children's Festival: "Who Stole Mozarts Theme?" in 2017, which was wildly successful - check out the resulting video under the "Past Events" tab.

In our meetings, we prepare and discuss topics related to teaching. Previous topics include, but are not limited to: the use of musical apps and software as teaching aids; different learning disabilities and how to teach students who have them; the pros and cons of teaching students with digital vs. acoustic pianos; and professional development.

In addition to preparing meeting topics, our MTNA chapter also interacts with local professionals in order to learn more about music careers and the different options available to students. People we have met with include the JMU piano professors, a professional private teacher, and a music therapist.

Who Are the Members of MTNA?

We are students of James Madison University's School of Music. Our members are music majors of all concentrations who are interested in teaching privately during their careers. The majority of our members are pianists, and our organization is made up of Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral students.
